Plans to install a PV system at Van Landschoot, a slaughterhouse and meat hall, had been in discussion for some time. However, implementation of the project gained momentum from January 2021 due to a change by the Flemish government to the subsidy scheme covering solar projects. By offering the right guidance, the project was approved in May and installation was completed well before the deadline of 17 July. Van Landschoot is now getting the most advantageous subsidy possible.

The right roof construction

Due to existing techniques used on roofs and different types of roof parts, the PV installation at Van Landschoot was not a standard project. Among other things, non-contiguous roofs, the stability of the roofs and future plans such as a set of cranes yet to be installed had to be taken into account.

Each kWh generated is consumed by Van Landschoot's own locations, making it essential to use all the roof space. The completed system with 960 panels, installed by Extrapower, produces 320 MWh per year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 100 households.

Energy partner

Scholt is involved in its customers' solar projects from subsidy application through to actual completion. We prepared the installation file for Van Landschoot, drew up various business cases, compared installers and took care of the contract negotiations. The smooth communication with Extrapower was reflected in a successful working experience. The proposed schedule was monitored and the project was completed on time. Together with Van Landschoot, we are investigating whether a further expansion of the solar park is possible.
